Economic charts are embroidered on fabric with sequins and beads. Some portions were executed by Haitian artist Louise Evlyne Carpentier.
Digital prints on fabric are designed to be installed in layers. In creating these pieces, I used some translucent material that was positioned in front of successively opaque layers; this result in works that create visual movement as one shifts one’s viewpoint in front of them. The patterns in each piece are derived from a single still of my video. These elements are often eccentric, as if from worn carpets. Anfal is from a landscape view of the memorial cemetery in Kurdistan where victims of Saddam Hussein’s campaign against the Kurds are buried. Mt. Washington is a view from my home; and the final image an abandoned, overgrown miniature golf course.
