Video Sculpture with 5’35” videotape

A scale-model (1”=1’) American living room of the 1950s overflows with boxes of consumer items, while home improvement books litter various surfaces. Stacks of newspapers hint at a connection between this era and the present; their headlines record key events in the development of atomic weapons, from the dropping of the bomb on Japan to the debate over the neutron bomb. A 2” black and white TV monitor plays a tape montage of Army-McCarthy hearings, old tv commercials, and a 1950 children’s space program.
